Myofacial Therapy for TMJD Relief
Myofacial Release & TMJ Therapy involves releasing tension throughout the face, jaw, scalp, neck and shoulders with light pressure point treatment. It also includes lesser known muscles such as the Masseter, Lateral and Medial Pterygoids, Temporalis, Tongue, and more.
How it Works
Working on these muscles directly is very effective in releasing tension, which aids in pain, stiffness as well as deferred pain to other parts of the body which stems from TMD. The first time might leave the client a bit sore and stiff in the jaw, tongue and neck since these areas are not used to being manipulated manually. However, this does not last long and generally stops after a few treatments.
The neck and shoulders also get released to improve range of motion and head posture. Note that this is not an overnight process, but most people see significant results after a few quick succession treatments. Once or twice a week is optimal in the beginning.
